| Wii simulated golf has never seemed so realistic
Well, spring arrived (briefly), but before you know it, it'll be time to hit the links and unleash our hidden Chi Chi Rodriguez. Unless you're like me, and have extreme allergies to anything green. In that case, there's always EA Sports' "Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007." "Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007,"EA Sports for Nintendo Wii; $49.99; rated E (all ages). It's been out for a while for the PS3 and Xbox 360, but now it finally came out for the Nintendo Wii. It was worth the wait. OK, the graphics are about Game Cube quality, and the basic game is pretty much unchanged from the previous years, but here's the difference: the Wiimote. Actually swinging a club-like controller adds a lot to the golf sim experience. (Just stand well away from fishtanks, excitable pets and anything breakable.) The controller takes a bit of time to get used to, but once you get the hang of it, it's a big improvement over the golf controls in the "Wii Sports" launch game.
Go to the gym and play Wii Sports
I think this story can be filed under “things I should have thought of first." Personal trainer Zander Urquhart has developed an exercise regimen involving the Wii. When I say “involving" the Wii, I mean that all they do is play Wii Sports. He got the idea from watching a kid playing a Wii one day. He originally targeted youth, but soon discovered that adults enjoyed it just as much. Apparently, you can burn around 125 calories during each 15-minute session. This is similar to what you'd burn from jogging, cycling or playing tennis. According to John Moore University, you can burn around 1830 calories from playing about 12.2 hours per week, enough to shift 27 pounds. I guess I need to start "exercising" more. Nintendo Gives Wii's to YMCA Programs Around the Country
If you have been able to get your hands on a Nintendo Wii console and spent any amount of time playing Wii Sports you know that playing games on the Wii is as much exercise as it is fun. To promote the Wii for family time and exercise Nintendo is giving 100 party packs to YMCA chapters nationally. A Nintendo press release says that the YMCA intends to use the Wii consoles to bridge the gap between parents and kids through their Adventure Guides programs. Starting on Saturday April 14th some YMCA chapters will also begin integrating active Wii games into their Healthy Kids Day events. .
Wii Sports Cuff Eliminates Wiinjuries
After one month of having its customers injuring themselves in Wii-related accidents, last December Nintendo started replacing the Wii remote strap with one that was more durable and held up to the heavy use that gamers were laying down on it. Still, for some players the new and improved Nintendo strap may not be enough and for those people there is now an alternative: the Retractable Wii Sports Cuff. All you need do is attach your Wii remote to the neoprene Cuff and then wrap it around your wrist and you're good to go. The retractable cord can extend to a maximum of 13 inches and when you're not holding the remote the cord will slide back into the housing and leave your remote dangling from the end. For just a penny under $10 this is a great accessory to have, but when it's discounted by 40% it's even better.
Japanese sales data: Wii surpasses 2 million
According to Japanese video game sales tracking company, Media Create, the Wii's life to date sales has surpassed 2 million units in Japan during the week of 2nd to 8th of April. The console is currently holding steady at around 50 thousand units sold per week, and is still said to be supply constrained. Nintendo have recently increased production capacity for the console which could see even more units being sold every week. Currently the console is generating these sales on the back of solid Wii Sports and Wii Play sales, while some potentially big sellers in Super Paper Mario and Big Brain Academy Wii are to be released over the next three weeks. On the sofware top 10 there were three new entries: a new Naruto game on the Playstation 2 by Bandai-Namco entered in first place with 75453 copies sold; Gundam SEED Alliance vs ZAFT Portable for the PSP, also by Bandai-Namco, entered at number 2 with 58751 copies sold, and another PSP game in the form of Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball Portable 2 by Konami entered at position 8 with 29944 copies sold.
