WV footballers draw first blood
The Western Visayas football team scored one of the early victories in the National Private Schools Athletic Association Games yesterday when it registered a 4-2 win over Central Visayas at the Iloilo Sports Complex. Region VI coach Norman Fegidero Jr., who is also mentor of the West Negros College side, said goals from Wesnecans Jaylor Soriano and Mark Ferrer as well as Iloilo PRISAA reinforcements Roman Paolo Suner and Michael Manahero ensured the win. The Western Visayas booters have no games today but will take the field against Region V at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, before clashing with Zamboanga. With only four teams in the tournament, organizers have decided that the squad that sweeps the single round-robin eliminations will be declared champion. In the event that no team can score a sweep, a title match between the top two teams will be staged, Fegidero added.
Samuels a huge hit at US high school

Recruited at age 15 from a KFC-sponsored JaBA Star Search Camp, the youngster from Muschette High in Trelawny left Jamaica for St Benedicts High School in New Jersey and quickly established himsel as a centre and power forward. He is currently the No 2-ranked high school basketball player in the USA, and is the top centre for the Class of 2008. .
Aussies confirm interest in Liverpool striker
The former England international is out of contract at Anfield in the summer, and although he wants to stay with his boyhood club, there is every chance he could be lured to Australia. "He's been discussed at boardroom and it shows how determined we are to set the benchmarks in Australian football that were serious about targeting a player of his calibre," Sydney chief executive George Perry told Fox Sports. "He's out of the top drawer and although an official approach has not yet been made, it goes without saying that if he did come to Australia it would be a huge signing for us." Comments?
